Kedarnath Temple Trek - The Ultimate Pilgrimage Journey from Delhi to Uttarakhand Himalayas (2025 Yatra)
Kedarnath Trek is a renowned pilgrimage destination, forming part of the ‘Char Dham’ in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district. Situated at 3,583 meters, near the Chorabari Glacier—the source of the Mandakini River—Kedarnath is encircled by majestic snow-capped peaks, including the notable Kedarnath Mountain. Annually, thousands of devotees from across India visit this sacred site.
Many people mistakenly think that Kedarnath Trek and Kedarkantha Trek are the same, but they are completely different. Kedarnath is in Rudraprayag district, whereas Kedarkantha is in Uttarkashi district.
According to local legends, Lord Shiva hid in the form of a bull to avoid the Pandavas. Bhima, recognizing Shiva, tried to capture the bull but only managed to grab its tail. The rest of the body disappeared into the ground and later reappeared in different places, forming the Panch Kedar temples. The hump of the bull is believed to have appeared at Kedarnath, where the temple was built.
Kedarnath is not an easy trek. Hikers unaccustomed to long journeys and high altitudes may face challenges, so good physical fitness is recommended.
