Kedarnath Temple Trek – India’s Most Popular Pilgrimage Destination in Uttarakhand Himalayas | Complete 2025 Yatra Guide

Kedarnath Trek is a revered pilgrimage destination, forming part of the Char Dham in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district. Situated at 3,583 meters, near the Chorabari Glacier—the source of the Mandakini River—Kedarnath is encircled by majestic snow-capped peaks, including the notable Kedarnath Mountain. Annually, thousands of devotees from across India visit this sacred site. Many people confuse Kedarnath Trek with Kedarkantha Trek, but they are entirely different. Kedarnath Trek is located in the Rudraprayag district, while Kedarkantha Trek is in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. The name Kedarnath means lord of fields. According to legend, Lord Shiva took the form of a bull to evade the Pandavas. Bhima, one of the Pandava brothers, recognized Shiva and tried to capture him by his tail, but the bull disappeared into the ground, later appearing in different forms across the region. The hump of the bull is believed to have appeared at Kedarnath, where the Pandavas built the temple. Although it is a spiritual journey, the Kedarnath trek is not an easy one. Those unaccustomed to long hikes and high altitudes may face challenges, so it is advisable to maintain a basic level of physical fitness before embarking on this pilgrimage.
